Serving someone else on Mother's Day

I have to be honest and flat out say.................I HATE MOTHER"S DAY! I know I shouldnt cause it is time to reflect on how thankful I am for the mothers that I have in my life but it always is such a hard thing for me to sit hear all the talks since I long to be a Mother and still it is not time.

This year I wanted to have a different attitude and wanted it to be a good Mother's Day where I didnt come home from church and cry and be selfish and dwell on the fact that yet again ANOTHER Mother's Day has passed and yet again I sit and wait for it to be mine turn!

Every year we would call Ryan's mom and tell her HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. Every year she would tell me how much she hates this day and really truly hates it when it comes around each year. I would ask her why and she said because it ends up being a day where she has everyone over and she cooks, cleans, and it ends up being a day that is not restful and not fun.

This year since we were here in Seattle I wanted to make Ryan's mom have a REAL mother's day! I planned on having a dinner where she would not have to cook. I had Ryan's younger sister Stevie make the dessert that she loves and made sure that she had limited amount of work on Sunday when all the family came over for dinner. It was a wonderful dinner and she seemed so happy.

The best part of the day was giving her the Mother's Day present. She had told me many times that she has always wanted a bike. She wants a simple bike with not a lot of gears, a comfy seat and one that she can ride all around the city on. She had told me that she had gone to the bike shop here in Eatonville and liked some of the Beach Cruisers there. I went and looked and one was on sale for 50% off. I knew that if dad bought it on his own she wouldnt like that cause he would have spent to much money so I asked the whole family to pitch in and it would be from ALL of us!!!!! It was nice because an expensive bike split 6 ways makes it pretty affordable.

The look on her face when she realized the bike was hers was so PRICELESS! It made my heart so full of love! It made MOTHER'S DAY so WONDERFUL!!!

Here is some pictures of her seeing the bike for the first time and taking it into the kitchen!

We took it outside and she rode it up and down the street and it was like she was ten years old and she was in heaven!!!! Growing up there was four girls and three boys in her family and they could only afford two bikes. One bike for the girls and one bike for the boys. This was her VERY first BIKE of her VERY OWN!!!!!

All of us got a chance on the bike even Haydeez! Here is all of us hanging out together.

I treated myself to a Lemon pie- It looked really good- Tasted just ok- But it was nice to be able to have a dessert even though it was gluten free and candida free!

I didnt forget my mother either! A lady in the ward makes necklaces and she had this nice big orange stone that looked just like what my mom would love! So she put the stone with some other pieces and I sent my mom a new piece of jewlery to wear on her special day!

It really goes to show that when you serve others you lose yourself. I truly gained a testimony of that on Mother's Day this year! I didnt have a pity party with myself because I was making someone else's day! I need to try to do things like that more often when I am feeling down and sad. It truly is the BEST medicine and I can see why the SAVIOR taught us to serve.

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A WONDERFUL MOTHER'S DAY

What a fabulous idea. You are so kind and smart to concentrate on what does make you happy. I remember the days before I had children...I decided that Mother's day would not bother me because it was a celebration of all the women who mothered me, especially my own mother. I'm sure that someday you will KNOW that the mothering that you do RIGHT NOW is huge and reason to celebrate without having any biological children. Some of the best mothering in the world is done, not by biological mothers but by the many surrogates out there who give love in the capacity of friend, wife, aunt, cousin, sister, and daughter. Look at how you mothered your husband's mom? That was true mothering. Happy Mother's Day! May it make you smile at all the service you have rendered to so many!! Love u!!

ENJOY that time together!!! i'm so happy mothers day was a blessing instead of a disappointment to you... you are SO sweet and i bet you just made her day! isn't it crazy how easy we forget that doing service for others is nearly more rewarding for the person giving then receiving? i'm so glad you got to experience that joy in your heart!
