Trip to Pullman for 2 special 8 year olds
Right after Ryan and I got married we lived in Salt Lake City and Ryan's really close cousin and her husband and newborn son lived in Provo. For the two years that we lived in SLC we spent so many weekends and some weekdays together. Their son Wyatt became so close to both Ryan and I and if you remember back a while ago he was the one that sent his Flat Stanly to us and we took him to Las Vegas and documented his stay with us.
After we moved from SLC to Vegas in 05 Amy and I always talked about how she wouldnt want us to miss Wyatt's baptism. He was two at the time and the thought of him being 8 seemed like a long ways away. I promised her though that both Ryan and I would do all that we could to be able to be there for that special day.
Who would have ever thought that we would be here in Washington for his 8th birthday and for his baptism! Amy and James recently adopted and Wyatt has a brother Andy who also turned 8 so they got to celebrate their special BAPTISM day together.
Andy asked me to speak on Baptism and Wyatt asked Ryan to confirm him with the Holy Ghost.
The weather when we left to go to Pullman last Friday was very rainy and the threat of snow was weighing on our minds. We contemplated on not going but we both felt we needed to be there and that we didnt want to miss this special day.
I am so glad that we made it! I am so glad that we were able to be there to witness that special moment! The spirit was so strong in the room. I stood up to start my talk and just started to bawl. I looked at Amy she was crying so was James. It was a moment that we thought about, talked about, planned out and it was finally here and happeneing. I cant believe that he is 8 and taking on one of the most important covenants in the gospel.
I am so proud of Wyatt and of Andy and their decision to be baptised. The effect and total realization of what it all means will probablly not be fully understood till later but I know they will.
When Ryan did the confirmation before he could even start he started to cry. It was such a spiritual experience for both of us. I am so glad that we were able to go.
Here are some pictures of the special day
James got Amy a pistle for protection since they live out in the boonie and then Ryan's uncle gave them a rifle. Amy, James, and I had some fun shooting the guns outside and aiming at the targets. I dont know why but I love to shoot guns! It is probabblly not a good thing but I do.
Here are a few photos of us with the pistal and the rifle.
On the way home it was not raining but SNOWING! We havnt had to drive long distances in snow in quite sometime. I hate it! It makes me a nervous wreck. Ryan not so much. We borrowed our friends Jeep so we had 4 wheel drive and took on the pass with the snow coming down.
The snow if beautiful to look at and the mountains and trees looked incredible but it was not fun to drive in!

It was nice to be able to spend sometime with Amy and James again and to sit and talk and just hang out. I miss those days when we lived only thirty minutes away. I pray that when James graduates with his PHD from Washington State he can get a job close by here in Seattle. These days you just dont know where the Lord will take you.

Right when it started to get really ugly
On the way home I began to think about how blessed I feel to have lived in Illinois, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. I have met some pretty amazing people and they have been such an impact on my life. I began to think how thankful I was to be able to go this weekend for Wyatt and Andy's baptism BUT it made me sad to think that there are so many other things that are just as important as that day for my other friends and family that live much farther away and how I wont be able go and be apart of those moments. I wish that I had extra money not for material things but for the ability to travel to be able to attend those moments that you just cant get back. Once they happen they are gone and just memories. I know at this time that it is not a reality of excess money to do things like this but I hope that my friends and family members know that my heart and intentions wish we could.
